Featuring Cuban-inspired food, the third annual Big Gala will see Havana Nights as its theme to entice people to attend this major fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince George on Saturday night at the Hart Community Centre.
"We wanted to bring some sunshine into the event," Darbi Brand, community development manager for the local non-profit organization, said.
"I think we've all had a very long winter so we just wanted to create an environment that's warm and fun, bright and colourful, and we felt Havana really spoke to that."
Included in the ticket price is a buffet dinner, as well as the infamous Hart Community Centre treasure trove of desserts, and a shuttle ride home for anyone who needs it.
"Throughout the event there will be a DJ and dancing, as well as a live and silent auction and a raffle," Brand said.
"There's hopefully going to be a couple of surprises - some new things we're bringing in that haven't been featured in any of our galas before."
The goal is to raise $30,000, which would exceed last year's Alice in Wonderland themed gala. Proceeds go to the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program, which includes one within the school district and sees an adult or teen volunteer spend an hour a week during school hours and on school property with a student to do activities that are not academically inclined.
There is also the traditional program where adult volunteers are matched with children and youth in Prince George who go out and do activities in the community, Brand explained.
Tickets are available online at bbbspg.ca or the Big Brothers Big Sisters office, 777 Kinsmen Place, for $65 each or a table of 10 is $550.
Doors open at 6, dinner is at 7 p.m.
