Barkerville Historic Town & Park will open its season June 4 with live historical interpretations back on the schedule along with live musical comedies at Theatre Royal starting July 1.

Barkerville’s historical live interpretation is back in time for the 2022 tourist season that starts June 4.

During this summer season at Barkerville Historic Town & Park the Theatre Royal will host a grand re-opening during its 2022 Dominion Day celebrations July 1.

The theatre has remained dark during the pandemic and during that time the heritage building’s foundation saw some renovations so that family-friendly musical comedy will be presented once again.

During the season Barkerville will also bring back it’s Indigenous Celebration on BC Day, August 1 as well as Chinese Mid-Autumn Moon Festival on Sept. 3.

In addition to its June 4th launch, Barkerville is excited to announce the grand re-opening of its acclaimed Theatre Royal as part of the park’s 2022 Dominion Day celebrations on July 1st. The theatre has remained dark throughout the pandemic, during which time the heritage building’s foundation underwent extensive renovations and archaeological excavations and with the easing of health authority mandates in recent months the decision has made to provide high quality, family-oriented musical comedy from the stage of the Theatre Royal once again.

Osisko Development’s nearby Barkerville Gold Mines is sponsoring the continuation of Barkerville’s award-winning historical interpretation program.

This is the second year in a row that Osisko has provided funding towards Barkerville’s educational programming.

“We are proud to be supporting Barkerville Historic Town & Park through a contribution of $500,000 which will support its living history presentations and the Theatre Royal,” Chris Lodder, president and CEO of Barkerville Gold Mines, said. “This is in addition to the $500,000 in support we provided last year to ensure Barkerville could operate in a season impacted by forest fires and COVID-19.”
