Art Space is celebrating the arts and culture of local women tonight.

The Inspiring Women Among Us Cabaret is a presentation of performing and visual arts.

It will include poetry readings, live music, storytelling, paintings and more.

It is not a women-only event by any means. The theme is centred on the local women who inspire society, but it is an all-ages and all-walks-of-life event.

Some of the names on the performance schedule include Naomi Kavka, Raghu Lokanathan, Al Rempel, Kara-lee MacDonald, Si Transken, Adebayo Coker, Paulina Nielson, Rob Budde, Judyta Frodyma, Alana Bartol, Darrin Rigo and many more.

"Inspiring Women Among Us is an annual celebration leading up to the Dec. 6 Day of Remembrance and Action Against Violence Against Women," said event organizers.

"This event offers a wide variety of public events that celebrate women's contributions to Canadian and global societies and discuss ways society can support our female colleagues, friends and family members."

The cabaret at Art Space happens from 7 to 10 p.m. Admission is free, with many items available for sale. The proceeds are aimed at prospective UNBC female students in financial need.
