Art Battle sees artists compete at high speed

Prince George Art Battle sees nine artists go head-to-head in a high-speed, three-round competition to create awe-inspiring artwork in front of a soldout crowd who ultimately crowns the victor May 12.

Prince George Art Battle sees nine artists go head-to-head in a high-speed, three-round competition to create awe-inspiring artwork in front of a soldout crowd who ultimately crowns the victor Friday night.

This is the first Art Battle to be held in three years and the new space for the contest is the Knox Performance Centre, with doors opening at 6:30p.m. and painting beginning at 7.

As the evening unfolds all the artwork produced during the competition will be up for grabs in an exclusive auction.

Artists participating in the high-intensity battle presented by the Prince George & District Community Arts Council are:

Carla Joseph, a children’s book illustrator, who loves sharing her gift of art. Her work has a unique and whimsical style and she enjoys painting wildlife.

Karen Erickson, who has been painting for more than 30 year, enjoys painting animals, people and telling stories through her art.

Aldea Wood, who is a medical student, painter and linocut printmaker, is inspired by nature.

Kat Valcourt creates innovative, inventive and fun mixed-media pieces and she gets an adrenaline rush when painting in front of a live audience in just 20 minutes.

Chancey offers art with a theme of nature, dwellings, humanoid creatures, music, sci-fi, emotional states, mental health and psychology.

Diane is a self-taught Indigenous artist who creates a wide range of mediums including painting, pottery, beaded leather jewelry and dabbling in metal art.

Katherine Johnsen is a multimedia artist with a focus on exploration and play who loves to create to explore self-expression and to make meaning of her personal symbolism and experiences in the world.

Rachael is a multimedia artist between acrylic and embroidery. She enjoys bright colours and mixing realism with some sense of magic.

Melissa pal uses art as a mental outlet and as an expression of herself. She uses all forms of mediums but her roots stem from simple pencil sketches while water colours and acrylics have been important to her process most recently.
