Do you remember when? Can you recall? Have you harkened back? Did you recollect?
That's what Doug Jack is asking you to do as he presents a concert series called Music for Memories Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Art Space, above Books & Co.
Jack has an album called Seriously Sucky Love Songs and during the show, he'll be playing songs from that album as well as covering classics from the '40s to '80s.
"This concert is geared for people who are at least 40 years old who remember back to yesteryear when times were a little simpler and you could actually hear the words in a song," said Jack.
The audience will hear Elvis Presley's Falling In Love With You, Willie Nelson's Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain, and Glen Campbell's By the Time I Get to Phoenix.
"And on and on it goes like that," said Jack.
"Everyone of those songs were top 10 hits and the first set will be more country and the second set will be pop and classics."
Jack will be telling tales about some of the songs.
"I will be sharing really fascinating information about the songs, like who recorded it and why and who passed on the it and wished to heck they hadn't. I'll be doing Name That Tune and giving away prizes for the one who guesses correctly and people can dance if they want. We're just going to have some fun."
Jack has been performing vocals as well as playing piano, organ and harmonica all over western Canada and the United States since 1965 with bands, and backing up Juno award winner Gary Fjellgaarde years ago, made concert appearances with the InkSpots, The Mommas and Poppas, the New Supremes and Freddy Fender. People may remember him as part of Momentum in the early 2000s, a local classic rock band that did a lot of fundraisers for charities in Prince George.
Jack also owns Miworth Recording Studio with 16-track digital and analogue recording, where he records full albums and also invites people who want to create demos and one-time performances for a loved one as a gift. Jack encourages people to bring their own track or he will provide one. People can come in and record a song, get a photo taken as they are recording the CD, or even create a DVD of the whole event and present it as a gift to grandma, a girlfriend or whoever they choose, he explained.
"I think it's a great idea to give someone a special gift like that," said Jack.
"I even had a rapper out here the other day. That was a lot of fun. I've done everything from jazz to blues, country to rock and I welcome anyone to give me a call."
