John Keyler has pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder and interfering with human remains stemming from the death of a Taylor woman in 2020.
Keyler appeared in person in Fort St. John Supreme Court Monday morning as Crown prosecutors and defence lawyers prepare for a trial. The proceedings were for a series of voir dires, mini-hearings within a trial where the judge considers the admissibility of evidence.
Keyler is accused of killing Sarah Foord in July 2020 following a two-week police investigation into her disappearance from her home in Taylor. He was arraigned before today’s voir dire, and pleaded not guilty to both counts of murder and interference of a dead body.
The hearings are expected to continue into next week, with hours of RCMP video evidence to be examined and witness testimony yet to be called, court heard. A preliminary inquiry earlier this year found there was sufficient evidence to try for a conviction.
No date has been set for jury trial, confirmed the B.C. Prosecution Service.
Keyler remains in custody and has not been found guilty of the charges.
