The Oliver Food Bank has experienced a break-in, and while police have one person in custody, others are on still on the loose.
On Tuesday (July 23) in the early morning hours, Oliver RCMP were called to the food bank building.
Suspects had entered by breaking one of the side doors and stolen a number of food items.
A police investigation led to the arrest of local resident Patricia Smith.
She has been charged with break and enter and will appear in Penticton court today (July 24).
Police call the act "heartless" considering the non-profit nature of the food bank.
"[The act] impacted many people, including those who depend on the food bank to feed both themselves and their families," reads a statement from Cpl. Christina Tarasoff.
