Where there’s smoke there’s fire and it just so happened an RCMP officer noticed something burning early Thursday evening in the light industrial area off Otway Road.
Turns out it was a rock truck parked in the gravel pit at 5027 Sandberg Rd., owned by Twin Rivers Developments.
The call went out to Prince George Fire Rescue and they arrived within minutes from the fire hall at First and Ospika. The fire crew sprayed water and fire retardant on the blazing truck but unfortunately it was too late to save it and it was destroyed.
“It’ll be deemed a total loss after investigations,” said Bryan Paice, vice-president of Twin Rivers Developments, which owns the truck and gravel pit.
The estimated value of the truck is in the high six figures.
“Brand new they can be worth over a million dollars,” said Paice. “This one was a couple years old but they definitely aren’t cheap. It just looks like it was an equipment failure.”
The truck was not anywhere near to a buildings and there was no other damage. The fire was extinguished within a few minutes.
“It was just a piece of equipment that was parked at the laydown (area) and it looks like it was probably an electrical fire but nothing’s for sure until the investigation is complete,” said Paice.
