ALS is a rapidly progressive neuromuscular disease.

The ALS Society of British Columbia has announced the annual Move to Cure ALS fundraising initiative. "Whether walking, running, rolling, supporting, or participating virtually, your involvement is what makes this event truly special," the announcement states.

The Prince George event takes place Sunday, June 23 at 11 a.m. at Lheidli T'enneh Memorial Park. Registration is at 10 a.m., with the event beginning at 11 a.m. To register or donate, visit http://events.alsbc.ca/princegeorgemove2024.

It's the 18th year for the event locally, which has seen $353,000 raised. Last year saw 140 participants, with $18,800 raised. This year, thefundraising goal is $20,000.

One hundred percent of the event's net proceeds will remain in British Columbia and the Yukon, providing direct support to individuals living with ALS, essential patient services programs, and ALS research through the PROJECTHOPE initiative, which is currently establishing a world-class ALS Centre at the University of British Columbia's Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health.

The aim is to assemble a top-tier clinical care and research team to enhance patient care, advance ALS research, and ultimately find a cure for ALS.
