Two Fort St. John men will serve jail time after being arrested for kidnapping and assault last year.
Matthew McCharles-Carter and Bradin Querin were charged after police were called to what RCMP called a "serious assault" at a residence in the 8800 block of 101 Avenue on Feb. 23, 2021, where a male victim was found.
McCharles-Carter has been sentenced to consecutive jail terms of five years for sexual assault, four years for forcible confinement, two years for assault, and six months for uttering threats, according to the provincial court registry.
With credit for time served, McCharles-Carter will serve five years. He was also put on the sexual offender registry for 20 years and given a 10-year firearms prohibition on each of the charges, according to the courts.
Querin was sentenced to 43.5 months jail for forcible confinement and credited 4.5 months for pre-sentence time in custody; sentenced to two years for assault causing bodily harm; sentenced to two years for assault with a weapon; and sentenced to six months for uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. Querin was also given mandatory 10-year firearms prohibitions and ordered to submit a DNA sample on the assault charges.
Querin had been previously granted bail in the matter, and released to a crime and addiction rehabilitation centre in Prince George.
Court records show Querin was also sentenced last month in Surrey provincial court to three months jail for possession for the purpose of trafficking in Fort St. John in October 2020.
