A man was arrested on Vancouver Island this week after a woman scared off a carjacker who allegedly tried to steal her vehicle while she and her four-month-old baby were inside.
North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP were called at about Noon on Tuesday to Government Street after a man jumped into the running, parked vehicle in which the woman was a front-seat passenger.
Her baby was secured in the back seat.
The man insisted he needed the vehicle. She tried to get him to stop but was allegedly assaulted in the process. After further struggle, she managed to hit the horn and shift the car into park.
At that point, he got out and calmly walked away.
Police located a suspect nearby.
North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP Staff Sgt. Kurt Bosnell called the incident “brazen.”
“It is very fortunate that nothing more serious occurred as a result of this,” he said in a statement.
Jordan Plamondon has been charged with motor-vehicle theft, attempted robbery and assault. He has been remanded in custody and is set to appear in court Feb. 5.
