Take a Walk in the Woods

Back in the good old days when students took field trips the Canadian Institute of Forestry offered tours. Shown here is John Neumann, a professsional forester in May 2004, who pointed out a huge Cottonwood at the Willow River Interpretive Trail to a group of Westwood Elementary School Grade 5 students.

A Walk in the Woods during National Forestry Week is offered through the Willow River Interpretive Trail Saturday for all age groups and it’s family-friendly, too.

The Cariboo Section of the Canadian Institute of Forestry is sponsoring the event and offers a guided tour by professional foresters who will take groups on the two kilometre walk that features 20 interpretive posts where discussions will take place around the environment, including the wildlife and the trees that exist in the forest.

Pre-Covid school buses filled with students would take to the trails for a small adventure in nature but because of the pandemic restrictions this tour is offered to individuals who can travel to the Willow River Interpretive Trail at the Willow River highway rest stop on Highway 16 East.

To register for the Walk in the Woods email Anna Monetta at amonetta@shaw.ca before Sept. 22.
