Those exploring the Okanagan Valley are likely privy to the region’s reputation as B.C.’s wine country; however, those looking to take the road less travelled should set their sights north, to Monte Creek Ranch Winery, and the budding winemaking destination of the Kamloops Wine Trail.

Just ten minutes outside Kamloops city limits, Monte Creek Ranch Winery is an award-winning establishment that is beginning to transition into a beacon region to travellers and locals alike looking to expand on their wine tasting adventures.

“I truly believe that Monte Creek Ranch will be a leader within the British Columbia wine industry. We are at the boundary of cool climate viticulture and it is when wineries push boundaries that exciting, unique, and delicious wines are made,” said winemaker Galen Barnhardt.

The Monte Creek Ranch itself is steeped in Canadian history. Sitting alongside the South Thompson river, the 1,200-acre working ranch and winery is home to Haskap berries, cattle, horses, goats and two breathtaking estate vineyards.

“We are blessed to have such an amazing site that offers such wonderful experiences to guests,” commented Ashley Demedeiros, marketing manager. “Visitors from all over the world can come to our property to enjoy the rugged beauty of the Thompson Valley while doing a wine tasting, a guided vineyard tour and having a bite to eat on our Terrace restaurant.”

The up and coming Kamloops Wine Trail will soon be part of the newly designated Thompson Valley accreditation, which has over 110 acres under vine, four unique wineries and a plethora of guest activities and wine touring experiences.

“It is a very exciting time for the BC wine industry and local wine lovers. The wine landscape is growing, new wineries are popping up around every corner, and new regions emerging. Playing a large role in the ‘New BC Wine Experience’ is the picturesque Kamloops Thompson Valley,” said Trish Morelli, executive director of the Kamloops Wine Trail.
