This conference centre fills modern-day meeting needs in Prince George

The House of Ancestors provides a modernized alternative to other local venues that may be either too big or too small

The House of Ancestors is ideal for business events, presentations and celebrations

In downtown Prince George, 355 Vancouver Street has long been a place where friends gather. First, as The Princess movie theatre from 1942 to 1977, then as The Odeon from 1977 to 2001 and today as a conference centre that is ideal for business events, presentations and milestone celebrations.

The Lheidli T’enneh Band rescued the shuttered cinema and, after extensive renovations, re-opened it in November 2018 as the House of Ancestors Conference Centre, or Uda dune Baiyoh.

The response has been very gratifying. As well as helping to revitalize the downtown core, the conference center provides a completely modernized alternative to other local venues that may be either too big or too small.

James Morrison, the business manager of IDL Projects, is proud to have been a part of the building’s exciting transformation. But, more than that, he’s also a satisfied client. IDL has rented the House of Ancestors for several events, including its annual safety conference and multiple company orientations.

“The enthusiasm and exceptional service of the conference center’s staff directly contributed to the success of these events,” he says. “Event co-ordinator Joyce Jael’s outstanding resourcefulness and commitment to great customer service — and the professional she portrayed — impressed our entire team.”

The center’s staff works with clients to adapt the space into whatever clients need. The building is configured in four ways: a boardroom, lounge, right hall and centre hall, each of which can be rented out separately. The right hall and centre hall can be rented together to create an even larger space.

Clients can rent many of the supplies they need, whether it’s audio/visual equipment or decorative features to create the perfect venue for mid-sized weddings — including a dance floor.

The centre also offers a wide array of delicious choices for breakfast, lunch, dinner and, of course, snacks to keep guests going in between. All meals are served buffet style which means guests can choose the options that suit their tastes and dietary restrictions. Menu choices include everything from a popular bannock taco bar to a mouth-watering roast beef dinner.
