Don’t be late to the Northern Routes party

You can stay on top of cultural happenings in Northern B.C. by subscribing to the Northern Routes e-newsletter
NorthernRoutes
The e-newsletter gives advance notice of fun and creative things happening at Northern BC’s premier museums, galleries and cultural attractions.

Have you ever heard about an event you’d really enjoy — only to find out it took place last week?

Subscribers to the Northern Routes e-newsletter don’t have to worry about missing out on anything. They get advanced notice of all the fun and creative things being planned at Northern BC’s premier museums, galleries and cultural attractions.

From now until March 1, when you sign up for the e-newsletter you will be entered into a draw for one of five prizes valued at $250. This collection of gift certificates will open doors to The Exploration Place, Two Rivers Gallery, Central BC Railway & Forestry Museum, Huble Homestead, Mackenzie & District Museum, Whistle Stop Gallery, Valley Museum & Archives, Valemount Museum, Barkerville Historic Town & Park, Fort St. James National Historic Site.

So, now that you’ve had a breather from the Christmas rush, it’s time to start filling your days with new adventures.

Did you know that Two Rivers Gallery in Prince George hosts Picasso Playgroup Fridays? It’s for kids aged two to four and runs over six sessions starting on January 31. But painting isn’t just for little kids (or at least it shouldn’t be.) The gallery is hosting a gooey paint pour on January 14. Adult Picassos can also spend the February 1 weekend drawing and painting with Annerose.

And, for crafters, come to Two Rivers Gallery on January 15 for Laser 101: Create Your Own Rubber Stamp.

Over at The Exploration Place, it’s not just the Irish who like to celebrate their culture. Hosted by the Prince George Symphony Orchestra, the Robbie Burns Night on January 25 features all things Scottish — especially the music and food. “Gie her a haggis!”

If the ’80s are your preferred musical genre, get ready for the Way Late Play Date on February 1. Mom jeans are cool again, fanny packs are rad, scrunchies are stellar, and neon is back at the annual fundraiser for The Exploration Place. Dubbed the ’80s Glow Night, enjoy a 19+ evening of rad games, gnarly science demos, fresh tunes, licensed bar, and pizza. There will be prizes for best costumes so start raiding the thrift stores (or your own closet) now.

In the meantime, let’s not forget the thrill of flying down the snow-covered hill at Barkerville’s Shamrock Tube Run.
