Cunningham has hot hand for Spruce Kngs

Wenatchee WIld visit Wednesday at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena

Corey Cunningham has been on a roll lately and his net-filling antics set the tone Saturday for the visiting Prince George Spruce Kings in a 3-1 win over West Kelowna Warriors.

Cunningham banged in a rebound for his team-leading 22nd goal and fifth in the past four games. That opened the scoring five minutes into the game and the Spruce Kings leaned on a solid 24-save, first-star performance from goalie Carter Woodside to lock up their 17th win of the season.

Mason Reeves fired the game-winning goal in the second period, hammering a slapshot past goalie Johnny Derrick after the puck bounced off the end boards. Kolton Cousins ended the suspense with an empty-net goal.

Brendan Pigeon scored the lone goal for the Warriors.

The teams finished tied in shots with 25 apiece.

The Spruce Kings (17-28-2-3-0) remain fifth in the B.C. Hockey League's Mainland Division, seven points behind the fourth-place Langley Rivermen.

The Kings started their roadtrip Wednesday in Trail with a 9-2 loss to the Smoke Eaters and followed that by losing 2-1 Friday to the Vipers in Vernon.

Prince George is down to its last eight games in the season and the Kings host the Wenatchee Wild (24-22-3-1-0, fifth in Interior) on Wednesday at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena. On Friday, the Merritt Centennials are in town to face the Spruce Kings.
