Czech it out, Prince George Cougar forward Filip Koffer is on the list as an alternate for an international professional hockey tournament.

He’s among 21 forwards named to the Czech Republic selection camp roster as a substitute to play for his country in the Karjala Cup, Nov. 5-8 in Helsinki, Finland.

The tryout camp for the Czech team will take place Nov. 3-4 in Helsinki. The tournament also includes teams from Finland, Russia and Sweden. It’s the first leg of the European Hockey Tour, a series of tournaments held annually in the four participating countries.

Koffer, 19, has been playing this fall for HC Stadion Litomerice of the Czech2 League and in six games he scored a goal and had two assists. The professional league’s schedule is currently under a pause while the country deals with an outbreak of COVID-19 cases. Koffer also produced a goal and an assist in three games this season with the Czech under-20 team.

The native of Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic was part of the country’s under-20 summer camp, the first step to making the roster for the IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton, Dec. 25-Jan. 5.

Koffer collected nine goals and 15 assists in 59 games last season with the Cougars and finished as the team’s top rookie pointgetter. The Cougars selected him 10th overall in the 2019 Canadian Hockey League’s 2019 import draft.

Koffer helped the Czechs to the bronze medal at the 2018 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup in Edmonton and led the Czechs in scoring at the 2019 World Under-18 Hockey Championship with four goals and two assists in five games.
