Richard Matvichuk is no longer the head coach of the Prince George Cougars.

The WHL hockey club announced this morning that their Stanley Cup-winning bench boss was no longer at the helm. The decision was effective immediately.

The team has suffered 11 consecutive losses leading up to the firing, and their season overall has resulted in 16 wins, 30 losses (plus four overtime and two shootout losses) for a total of 38 points, last place in the Western Conference.

According to the team, "general manager Mark Lamb assumes the role as head coach on an interim basis. Development coach Nick Drazenovic has been promoted to an assistant coach and will join Mark Lamb and Steve O'Rourke behind the Cougars bench."

Matvichuk has been coach of the Cougars since 2016.
