Three local 10-pin bowlers were on target for medals at the Special Olympics Canada championships in Prince Edward Island.

Linda Renner, Michael Harris and Yvonne LeRuyet were part of Team B.C. for the tournament. Renner - who rolled some of her highest scores to date - led the Prince George contingent with a gold medal in singles play and all-around gold, while Harris took silver in team competition and LeRuyet earned bronze in the team format.

The trio now has a chance of advancing to the World Special Olympics Summer Games, set for March 14-21, 2019 in

Abu Dhabi.

Renner, Harris and LeRuyet started their journey in 2016 when they competed in a regional event in Prince George. Based on their performances, they advanced to the Special Olympics B.C. Summer Games in Kamloops in 2017. From that tournament, they qualified for nationals.

At the national gathering, players competed in 10-pin and five-pin bowling.
