A truck carrying mail ended up blocking traffic in Fort St. John on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

A BC Highway Patrol officer en route to the Fort Nelson post office on June 19 found his way blocked by a broken-down tractor-trailer carrying a load of mail.

The truck had suffered a snapped rear axle and blown axle airbags after its tandem drivers attempted a 180-degree turn in the parking lot.

"When our police officers spoke with the tandem drivers of the tractor-trailer, they found more problems," said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin of the BC Highway Patrol.

Both drivers were issued tickets for falsified or incorrect logbooks, and the trailer was towed away on a flat deck for a full inspection.

McLaughlin said the incident drew the attention of a tow-truck operator, who showed up at the scene but was then ticketed for using an electronic device while driving.

“Most commercial drivers understand that there is a higher expectation of safety and professionalism for people who drive big, heavy rigs,” said McLaughlin. “When they don’t take their responsibilities seriously enough, BC Highway Patrol will be there.”
