Tuesday's weather had us enjoying the hot weather at a pristine back country river with my wife and my dog, a young lab who was starting to enjoy the water slowly as he was nervous being his first venture in the water swimming. He soon found he loved it and was running and jumping in the water and back to shore having the time of his life jumping through the water like a young deer until he stepped on glass and cut his paw open.
Every time we go somewhere pristine in the backwoods of P.G. we end up cleaning up someone else's garbage and glass. How easy it is to wreck a beautiful area with careless stupidity. The vet bill for my dog's cut foot was $160 but this isn't the point. It could have been me or you or your child or grandchild or wild animals stepping on it. What gives people the right to do this? Where is the respect? Glass doesn't break down. It stays there forever or until someone cleans it up.
I am suggesting we ban glass beer or liquor bottles sold or have the deposit so expensive that it's not worthwhile breaking maybe that way we'll be able to enjoy our heritage for years to come without worrying about someone's stupidity. Those responsible for the glass land mines might think twice if it's a 50 cent deposit for a single beer bottle.
