My first thought upon reading your guest editorial in your May 10 edition was "have you lost your mind?"

A guest editorial by John Bolton, Donald Trump's appointee to the office of National Security Advisor infamous for his pro-war (against Iran and others), anti-Muslim statements and fawning over Trump?

A little further thought likened this to what is called click bait amongst internet aficionados. Perhaps this was your way of tossing a rock into a pond to see what ripples would follow.

"Might we publish something so outlandish that locals will take an interest in our paper, talk about it over coffee, write letters to us, and perhaps get more to subscribe to our newspaper?"

Having strongly expressed what many of us thought of our former mayor in a recent editorial, you may have decided to provide "balance" by publication of an article thought pleasing to those who might have given her support and succor. Strange how those who supported Mayor Green would be likely fans of Donald Trump, isn't it?

A better choice might have been an editorial in praise of adding a friendly pit bull to your family.

Other possible reasons might include a lavish payment from Essential Consulting of Delaware or leaving the choice of which guest editorial to publish to a newly-hired sovereign citizen at work in your mailroom. It is also possible that you were having a bad week and failed to seek medical attention and treatment; if so, please head directly to your doctor's office for some very needed attention.

Now, any actual response to the Bolton editorial would be tedious to prepare and give more credence to his ramblings than are deserved. A line-by-line or paragraph-by-paragraph analysis and rebuttal might take a few hours and be of even less value than Bolton's missive.

Of more interest to me is your motivation for this astounding tour-de-force in your newspaper.

You did manage to lure me and perhaps others out of our caves to respond to publication of Bolton's bunkum but I cannot seriously think that such would be sufficient reason to publish such nonsense.

A post or call would have sufficed.
