I don't often go out of my way to criticize public figures. They do have a difficult, high-pressure job, and our mayor is probably no exception. There was controversy over Dan Rogers meeting with a gay/straight alliance youth group, and I could have cared less.
But Dan Rogers cutting the ribbon at Starbucks? Really? That's a massive slap in the face to small business owners. It's right down the street from a locally owned bakery, a brand new independent cafe, and a score of small restaurants.
I was absolutely shocked and hurt by that photo. Take all the pictures with various controversial interest groups you want, Dan Rogers; don't high-five greedy corporations when they start to ruin your city's struggling coffee joints.
