Who rejigged the lights at 20th and Victoria?

Somewhere in the deep recesses of our City Hall there must be an alter emblazoned with the expression "If it isn't broken ... break it!" For the past nine years or so, I have used the intersection at 20th Avenue and Victoria Street almost daily.

For the past nine years or so, I have used the intersection at 20th Avenue and Victoria Street almost daily. Even at rush hour, it seemed to work well.

Around the first of this year, it was too tempting for someone in traffic engineering to leave alone.

He or she had to fiddle.

The result? Traffic at non-rush hour times backed up east of Victoria to as far as Pine (two blocks, for those not familiar with the area).

I have watched westbound drivers turn north on Victoria in frustration, others try to turn off at Spruce to avoid the long delay.

At night or at slack times, drivers sit and wait and then simply drive through the red light when there is no traffic - I have counted six doing this in the last three days.

Other lights around town have had timing changed as well. Those that I use have suffered.

It was not broken, so someone had to break it.

Whoever at City Hall did this, please put things back the way they were, so we can use this intersection as intended.

As of today, I am avoiding the intersection by driving two blocks out of my way.
