Recently a friend asked me a loaded question: if it is acceptable to be proud of being black or gay, what is wrong with "white pride?" My answer is that much is wrong in all three cases.
One may have pride in accomplishments, but one's gender or perceived race is a matter of genetics, not achievement. I am grateful for my inherited characteristics, but not proud. Those who proclaim "white pride" bring white sheets and peaked hoods to my mind.
"White pride" seems to be proclaimed mostly by those of meagre accomplishments and a need to feel superior to others.
