I found the guest column, written by Diane Francis and published in Saturday's Citizen, very disturbing.
In the article, Ms. Francis claimed that Petronas canceled its LNG project not because of poor global conditions for LNG but because B.C.'s new NDP Government "has declared war against the Kinder Morgan project."
She might indeed surmise that that was the case but she did not say it was her surmise. She said is was the "real reason."
Ms. Francis could only know for certain the thinking of the Petronas board if some source from the board told her. She does not report meeting with anyone who may have been privy to the boards thinking.
If there was a meeting between a Petronas representative and member of the media, it is unlikely that Mr. Francis was the only media representative present. In that case, there should be other reporters prepared to support Ms. Francis assertions.
It seems to me that news organizations and individual papers that run stories like this one should look for proof of the story and advise their readers whether or not the proof exists.
