What's next for Mayor Green?

It is with no small amount of satisfaction that I read of Mayor Green's intention to not run for re-election at the municipal level though I must say that I am shocked that after her 'actions' on Saturday May 17th, she still feels as though she has a career in federal politics.

Canadian law is very cut and dried with respect to an individual running for any political seat, be it provincial or federal while still being an incumbent municipal politician. Why then if not seeking a nomination (she can't), was Mayor Green present at the Conservative Party's AGM at the Civic Centre on May 17th? Why did she attend this function with a large group of supporters? Why did she hand out 'the little blue books'? Why did Mayor Green and her entourage attend this function and by her actions and the organized action of her entourage, interfere so as to impede access to several individuals seeking nominations to the Conservative Party and their respective supporters?

It is obvious that Mayor Green has aspirations of higher political station though I wonder if with these lofty dreams she has the humility, tact and integrity to go with these ambitions so as to provide the best for her constituents, those who voted for her and those who did not? If her track record as Mayor and the three-ring circus she put on at the CP's AGM are any indicator, then I think not.

For those of you who care about our city, care about honesty and accountability regardless of whom you vote for and to whose ideals you subscribe to, pay close attention to the media, the Conservative Party's National office and MP Dick Harris' office over the near future. Mayor Green managed to get the attention of a great many people that Saturday; those present, those in Ottawa, those in the media and those very party members she had targeted but not in a good way. As an incumbent mayor, she should have kept a lower profile and acted with the courtesy and propriety expected of her and waited for such a time as she was no longer mayor to try to assert her influence and agenda and hinder the efforts of those who truly have local interests in mind.
