What is that in your hand?

"Whatever you have in your hand today, can create your future"

I used to own an automotive business. Every year we closed for a couple of days to go through the shop and take inventory. It was amazing how much valuable stuff we found that we had, that we had forgotten about. David writes in the Psalms,

Bless the LORD, O my soul;

And all that is within me, bless His holy name!

2 Bless the LORD, O my soul,

And forget not all His benefits:

Psalm 103:1,2

When you stop and count your blessings and begin to take inventory of the things in your life God has given you, you may be surprised at what you find.

I recently read the story of a retired man sitting on his porch in Kentucky when his Social Security cheque was delivered. As he went to the mailbox to retrieve it, he thought to himself, is this all my life is going to be? Just waiting for my next Social Security cheque to arrive? It was a very discouraging thought.

So he took out a note pad and began to count his blessings, even the small ones. For example, he expressed thanks that he knew his mother's secret chicken recipe, the one with eleven different herbs and spices! As he was giving thanks, he was so inspired he went down to a local restaurant and asked if he could get a job cooking their chicken. Very soon, his chicken became the most popular item on the menu. Soon he opened his own restaurant in Kentucky. Then he opened a string of restaurants and eventually sold the Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise to a national organization for millions. He became their public representative, and continued as such until his death. We know him as Colonel Sanders!

God asked Moses at the burning bush, "What is that in your hand?"

Moses' stick became the rod of God.

David had a slingshot, and became a champion and a king.

A young boy had two fish and five loaves, gave them to Jesus who blessed them and gave thanks, and 5,000 were fed with 12 baskets left over!

The bible is full of stories where, when faced with a huge problem, God asked the question, "What is that in your hand?"

What problem are you facing today, and what is in your hand?
