I'm new to the city and based on my brief experience here I'm sure you are going to toss this letter into the giant heap of complaints on this subject, perhaps you have a room dedicated to letters about how decidedly unfriendly PG is to pedestrians.
Add this to the stack.
I live in the Lakewood area, I have two babies and no car. I haven't seen much of the city because I understand that I will have to transfer about a half billion times to get anywhere at all on the bus.
That isn't an option. My stroller has a mind of its own and often refuses to be folded into a manageable position.
This is equally true of my two toddlers so the bus is not an option I guess. The few crosswalks that do exist seem to be for decorative value because they are no where near where they are needed.
That set of lights on 15th near Home Hardware - how the hell is anyone supposed to negotiate that intersection? No sidewalk to land safely on, just a high pressure gas pipe and oncoming traffic. I do like that every light is equipped with a walk button to push in order to cross at a safe time. Even if that safe time lasts only 1.3 seconds.
I have been a pedestrian in many places in the world. This is honestly worse than Bangkok at rush hour. I'm considering buying a car now, even though I know the planet would thank me not to.
