Two stories.
A Syrian family of refugees, parents and eight children ages from two to 17.
A house in Lethbridge has been provided for them, well-stocked with provisions, washer, dryer, fridge, all of the amenities that a Canadian family has. The children are going to school to learn English, the parents have their English classes; everything has been provided for them. A feel-good story, makes one proud to be a Canadian for helping others in dire need.
A homeless man in Surrey who was injured when the dumpster that he was sleeping in was picked up by a collection truck and he fell out of the bin just before he would have been compacted. He's one of many Canadians that use these bins for that purpose. The badly shaken driver thought that they would have to put locks on the bins to stop them from being used to sleep in.
I have a better solution.
Why not provide help on par with that given to the Syrian refugees for these needy Canadians?
Is it because these people are under the radar?
Nobody really cares about them. If the one per cent that hide their wealth in off-shore tax havens could be induced to pay their share of taxes that would provide a few beds and meals.
