This last week our green space suffered extensive destruction by a large excavator, hired by our city.
This came out of the blue to the residents of this area. We have been informed that the area is now threatened to be rezoned residential.
Our city has many environmental problems but the green spaces/parks help to offset that problem. Our residential area makes full use of the trails.
Our green space is used seasonally, by moose, bears, deer and even has a permanent resident fox family, not to mention all the other native species of plants and animals.
The area protects a creek that runs it length, and is marked with the fish signs.
We do not want this area developed.
You only have to go up the hill towards the university, to see how wonderful a clear cut does not look.
Please come and do a walk through from the trail entry at the tennis courts on Eton, just off McGill in College Heights.
Please stop this now.
Why were the residents of the area not informed?
Is this the next Haldi Road problem?
Are there other green spaces in danger of this same destruction?
Who is the developer coming in to do this?
