September and October are the perfect months to go hiking. May I suggest you try Eskers Provincial Park? The colours are spectacular and there are no mosquitoes. It is fairly close to town, the trails are well kept, there are informative signs along the trails and the ups and downs of the Eskers are a pleasant workout.
One doesn't need to travel for hours to the mountains to enjoy the great outdoors. But guess what? Getting to the trailhead is a nightmare. Be prepared to dodge deep potholes and huge craters in the middle of the road. Who's responsible for looking after this road? Do something, please!
