Vote of convenience

It was very easy for Councillor Skakun to vote no for a 30 per cent wage increase, when he knew that all other councillors would vote in favor, and the increase would pass.

If he is sincere in his "no" vote then perhaps he should turn down the money, or use it to repay the court costs involved in his trial for revealing confidential documents.

If Mr. Skakun had only told the truth in the first place he would have saved himself and the taxpayers thousands of dollars. He expects our sympathy for his major lack of good judgment, and even asked people to help pay for his legal fees.

I would have had far more respect for him if he had only confessed from the start and paid his $700 fine.

From the hockey enforcer fiasco, which came close creating a multi million dollar lawsuit against the city, to his trial and conviction for breach of trust, Coun. Skakun does not deserve the position entrusted to him by the voters. He should step down immediately, or at least commit to not running in the fall election.
