Visibility in the fog

I was driving down the university hill on a foggy Sunday morning when I noticed that the cars in front of me did not have their lights on. I could only see them when they touched their brakes.

I thought it odd that people would be driving in dense fog without their lights on.

Then I noticed that some cars driving up the hill had their running lights on in front but their tail lights were not on.

Drivers should be aware that on many vehicles, particularly newer models, when the running lights are on they are only on in the front and you need to put the headlights on full in order to get the tail lights on.
