While watching the Greenpeace circus act under a Vancouver bridge this week, I was more interested in Premier Horgan's comments on curtailed refined fuel shipments to Vancouver island, as reported by Laura Kane in the Canadian Press.
"Early Wednesday, Premier John Horgan said he was concerned that authorities had closed a rail bridge in response to the protest, resulting in the blockage of a different tanker loaded with refined fuel destined for Vancouver Island."
"The protesters, as long as they are abiding by the law, that's their right in a free society. But when they start to impact on the business of other people, when they start to infringe on the laws of the land, then there's a concern."
Horgan should have been making these strongly worded comments months ago when over 200 protesters were arrested at the Kinder Morgan tank farm entrance in Burnaby. OnKinder Morgan's rights for unimpeded access to their property to work on a lawful approved project, Horgan was almost silent. When refined fuel deliveries to his home turf of Vancouver island is stopped for 24 hours, protesters are infringing on the laws of the land.
It is past time for Horgan to stand up and say that protesters have to respect the right' of all people and companies in British Columbia.
