On behalf of everyone at Variety - The Children's Charity, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the communities of Prince George and Vanderhoof for their outstanding support of our 12th annual Radiothon.
Over the course of the two-day event we raised just over $77,000, topping our total from last year and setting a new record. The funds will go back into the community to provide direct help to local children with special needs, giving them the support they need to meet their challenges and achieve remarkable victories.
There were many memorable moments, including a surprise visit from seven-year-old Karensa who was thrilled to talk about the difference Variety-funded hearing aids have made in her life, and Variety dad Nathan whose little girl Olivia is currently receiving chemotherapy treatment in Vancouver. And these are just two of the children helped thanks to your support.
In the six months that I've been in the role of executive director, not a day goes by where I'm not amazed and humbled by the incredible generosity of the many donors, volunteers, sponsors and other supporters who move mountains for Variety every day. I believe it's a testament to the strength and heart of the people of Prince George and Vanderhoof who steadfastly stand up for their neighbours and truly make a difference in their communities.
As we celebrate Variety's 50th anniversary this year of helping children in B.C. with special needs, we look forward to becoming even more deeply connected to the community. We want to help more kids who have special needs, and encourage families to contact us if they think we can help. We also welcome fundraisers, volunteers and other ambassadors of our cause and are keen to support anyone wanting to make a significant impact in their community.
If you missed the Radiothon but would still like to donate, or to make an enquiry about a grant or volunteer opportunities, please visit us at variety.bc.ca.
