I would like to commend Nathan Giede for being a breath of fresh air in an otherwise stultifying and blinkered bent in our local newspaper The Citizen.
His humorous and very apt comments on North Korea in Wednesday's Citizen was bang on.
The Marxist has not shriveled up and died even though the old Soviet Union does not exist anymore.
A very plausible thought, a possible mutation into the more modern and prevalent left/liberal mode of thought?
A number of years ago, David Frum (his mother was Barbara from CBC's As It Happens) was at a party with a number of his left/liberal friends and he happened to bring up the subject of Alexander Solzhenitsyn and Solzhenitsyn's internment in the Soviet Union's infamous Gulag.
Mr. Frum experienced almost total apathy and disbelief that his left/liberal friends had towards the atrocities committed in the Gulag.
That was a watershed moment in Mr. Frum's life and he embarked on a realistic transformation from his family's strong left/liberal roots.
I would just like to sum up and encourage you, Mr. Giede, to keep up the good thought provoking writing.
