Many thanks to Frank Peebles for his glowing review of the Messiah. As he wrote, it really was an occasion to, "Rattle the humbug out of the chains of grumpiness," which is not only a novel and elegant literary image but a resounding compliment.
One omission in the article was not mentioning PGSO conductor Dr. Kevin Zakresky. Kevin is from Prince George and has embarked on a remarkable career on the Vancouver music scene. To have him as our PGSO conductor is indeed a gift to his home town.
Moreover - and from an insider's perspective - kudos have to go to Cantata director Damian Dorschner. By way of background, I've sung performances of the Messiah since I was a boy soprano and believe me that was a long time ago. Plus, like many of the singers of last weekend, I've had the good fortune to have sung at least 20 Messiah performances with the Cantata Singers. If there is credit due for our 'rattling the humbug out," it has to go to Damian. He has improved the sound and the quality of Cantata immeasurably. Finally, thanks to Prince George performing-arts audiences. You really are superb. Always supportive, always appreciative and always there.
