With the recent announcement that Fourth Avenue will be returning to a two way street.
Over the last few years, slowly but surely downtown streets are returning from one way back to two way. I must admit that when returning for a visit they present a bit of a problem to myself as one way is planted in by DNA of how to get around downtown.
At one time all downtown streets were two way and I remember when they started changing them. As a child it didn't mean much to me but my parents and their friends commented that it was about time as there was so much traffic in the core. Traffic was so slow it was annoying and also a safety hazard. In my humble observation due to local government throughout the years not protecting the core and allowing businesses to set up anywhere they please, has resulted in a derelict core where a lot of my remaining friends in Prince George refuse to venture.
One can only hope that the return to the 1960's style of vehicle traffic will help bring a sense renewal and once again citizens will fill the sidewalks and shops. In my humble opinion a city cannot reach its full potential without a vibrant downtown
