I am an old white guy.

As such, I have privilege and entitlement, much of which I may not even recognize. Recent letters to the editors complaining about Neil Godbout's article on Donald Trump drew some ire from some of your readers.

I have met Mr. Godbout and he is a gentleman, highly intelligent, engaging, curious and fair-minded.

I have read the Prince George Citizen for over 40 years and he is the finest writer and editor they have ever had.

In the Victoria Times Colonist, a couple of the readers have vehemently condemned Mr. Godbout. Give me a break! One gentleman raises issues such as Trump winning "the presidency by a large majority" --news flash, he lost the popular vote by three million, folks.

He continues on about us focussing on Trump's accomplishments over the last six to seven months of his presidency. Frankly, there have been very few.

The writer also mentions the issue around the "sexual-assault charges against him." He was never charged. The most worrisome part of the letter raised the spectre of Trump's nonsensical phrase "fake news" which fundamentally means "anything that I don't agree with," even if something has been accurately reported and thoroughly researched.

Another writer asks the TC what exactly Mr. Godbout "wants from us." I am not sure but I suspect he wants us to dismiss a man who has little credibility in the eyes of most of the world.

I have followed Trump for over 30 years. When his book The Art of the Deal was released, it illustrated a man who was infatuated with himself. He lied about his heritage and bragged profusely about being a bully from an early age. Oh, goody!

Many have been seduced by Trump's tough talk. Heck, any bonehead can talk tough. But this guy is now the president of the U.S.

When I see proponents of Trump, I often believe that they must support a misogynist, a racist, a bully, a liar, a narcissistic opportunist who cares little about anything except for domination and adulation.

He surrounds himself with sycophants and expects total submission.

Here's my take: Trump is a pathetic soul. His dad was a real piece of work and he has not fallen very far from the tree.

The fact that he is now the president is mind-numbing. The bottom line is, time and time again, Trump has proven himself to be little more than an immature, childish thug who is, sadly, an awful human being.
