Re: U.S. more than Trump, Aug. 9 Citizen.

Right of Centre columnist Nathan Giede presents typical views of those who accept and therefore normalize the behaviour and attitude of that disgusting President Donald J. Trump.

Giede brags about his silence (to this point) on the activities of Trump and his administration. Nobody who worries about and defends democracy should remain silent about his nine-month occupation of the White House.

It has been said "the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing" and that applies here. For example, Giede comforts himself that the American Constitution remains intact. He seems to forget that on more than one occasion, Trump has commented that the Constitution he swore to uphold is archaic and blames it for his legislative problems. Trump said "at some point in time we're going to have to take those rules [Constitution and Senate Rules] on for the good of the country."

Giede wants to shout from the rooftops that he is thankful that Trump is in the White House. Ask the rest of the world about that. Trump is an embarrassment and a clumsy oaf in his dealings with world leaders. He is unprepared, lacks knowledge of history, geography, the basics of language and world affairs. Nobody knows what he will say next or if what he says is to be believed.

Giede actually concludes that, "it is better to be ruled by a bad man than to be ruled by [a] good one compelled by his conscience to enact bad policies."

Let's examine a good man of conscience, President Barack Obama. No doubt Giede would consider his plan to give Americans single payer healthcare a bad policy.

He would have accomplished that, had it not been for the obstreperous GOP Congress. It would have eliminated insurance companies from profiting from people's illnesses and given citizens our healthcare at half the price of their present system, a compromised system Obama was forced to adopt.

The faster Americans vote in a Democratic Congress and impeach Trump, the better for America and the whole world.
