The Canadian Parliament is currently debating a bill that will change the types of ID's that are required to be produced prior to voting in an election. The Conservatives have come up with thirty-nine Identification documents that can be used. They have eliminated the voter registration card.

According to the Chief Election Officer Marc Mayrand in the last federal election their were 50,000 mistakes on registration vouched votes cast in the last election. There were over twelve million vote cast. These means that mistakes were few and far between.

Colin Bennett, professor of political science at the University of Victoria, and former Chief Electoral Officer Jean-Pierre Kingley and former Chief Electoral Officer Harry Neufeld condemn this bill. Both opposition parties are against this bill.

The Conservatives seem to have a problem. They seem to think the opinion of experts do not count.

This is not the first time where Conservative majority have dismissed expert advice.

I hope that the Conservatives will start to use their ears more than their mouths otherwise many will be defeated in the 2015 election.
