Tipping increase

After reading the article on the potential very large increase in tipping fees for city refuse at the regional district landfill and discovering the reason for the increase in fees is due to decreased use of the facility.

After reading the article on the potential very large increase in tipping fees for city refuse at the regional district landfill and discovering the reason for the increase in fees is due to decreased use of the facility. So to generate the same revenue as was obtained previously the fees will rise.

Can you imagine if private industry had this same approach. Rather than Canfor employees taking a wage cut to keep the sawmill open just raise the price of wood products. Wonder how that would work out. How about Walmart raising prices so the profit margin stayed the same.

The regional district government, provincial government and city government have to begin to realize the cash cow commonly called the taxpayer can not afford to continue to pay for their extravagant expenditures.

The public keeps hearing about recycling more and decreasing the amount of solid waste going to the landfill and once this happens it appears a decrease in solid waste is not what is really wanted by the regional district.

Run the regional district landfill like a business does in an economic downturn. If revenues are down, decrease staffing levels, shorten the hours open per day, heaven forbid take a pay cut, and decrease contractor operating hours.

I challenge the regional district board to be the first on the block to find savings elsewhere rather than fleece the over burdened taxpayer.
