Respectfully, I have to disagree with James H. Cluff on his vision of a performing arts centre at this time.
The economy is not what it should be and any business owner or manager I speak with has told me their business is down this year compared to last. I expect some will be up but not many.
Just because we have already spent $250,000 doesn't mean we should spend more.
You say we should spend the money for infrastructure on this. Infrastructure to me means water and sewer lines that are disintegrating and needing repairs on a daily basis.
The outlying areas such as Haldi Road and the Hart were promised water and sewer many years ago during the amalgamation of the city. We all know how that is going.
The other two levels of government and even the regional districts around here have shown no interest at all in this $40 million dream. How much would it cost for upkeep year after year?
I am betting it is no small amount.
There should be a referendum on expenditures such as this and if the majority wins, so be it, but please don't try and shove it down the throats of people that will never set foot in there.
