RE: IPG severance pay
After reading different articles, I am completely mystified why this subject is even being discussed.
I understand Mr. McEwan quit his position. He was not terminated by the board. Would this not mean he broke his contract? Why would he be entitled to any severance pay or moving expenses? He knew of his new position with the B.C. Government, prior to quitting. Since the new position is with the Government it would stand to reason his relocation expenses would be covered in this new contract.
If the IPG board of directors is willing to spend large amounts of tax dollars on Mr. McEwan severance, I think it's time to revisit why we have IPG at all. What do they do that can not be done by city staff or our elected officials to promote our city? IPG promotes private industry e.g. The Port at Prince Rupert, CN Rail Terminal, The Forest Industry and others. Why should the city tax dollars be spent promoting private industry?
The millions of dollars plus of city tax dollars can be better spent benefitting all taxpayers by improving the city's infrastructure and roads.
