Time for reform

Like many Canadians I watched with interest the disciplinary suspension action taken against the three disgraced senators. These three senators were appointed by Prime Minister Harper.

The prime minister and his office have shown that they are completely incompetent in selecting good candidates for the job as senator or as a advisor employed in his office.

This last two weeks we seen a large increase according to the press, media the number of other players who were involved in the senategate scandal. Where does this all end?

Currently there is a bill before the House of Commons demanding that the prime minister testify under oath about his involvement in senategate and what he knew about the cover-up. Since then PM's story in parliament has changed daily it becomes harder for anyone believe him. Will this bill be enacted? I doubt it as the Conservatives have a majority in parliament and they will not allow this vote on this bill to pass.

This senategate scandal will also stop the normal Nation business from taking place.

The Senate Is suppose to be the chamber of sober second thought. It was formed to allow representation to more sparsely populated regions of Canada. Unfortunately successive Conservative and Liberal governments over the years have used the Senate to reward party hacks. With both Conservatives and Liberals having party whips in the Senate this does not give one confidence that we have a sober second thought in this institution.

We will now have at least three vacancies in the Senate.

In my opinion I do not really have any confidence of having this prime minister any other PM or their office selecting any future senators.

I believe there is a huge need for reform of both our Senate as well as our parliament. I hope that other Canadians feel the same and express their views.
