Re: Gut and Head by Todd Whitcombe.

Mr. Whitcombe's says that in the early 1990's things weren't that tough; our GDP was up; people were moving in and our population was growing. My gut tells me that Mr. Whitcombe is playing with numbers as my head tells me that people were moving out of the province, in fact some head office corporations were relocating to Alberta.

Government was ballooning under the NDP, and personal income taxes were raised to augment this ballooning.

Todd refers to some unfortunate economic fortunes, "things were not so good" in 1997 - 2001. More people were moving out of the province. My head tells me the rest of North America was extremely fortunate in the same times. I believe Mr. Whitcombe's gut was working on the 1997-2001 fiasco under the NDP as for sure his head wasn't.

How is it that all of Canada plus the U.S. were having great times and welcoming our workers, advertising a better life elsewhere. B.C. was struggling. One of the most profitable provinces in Canada, a destination province at one time, B.C. was at the bottom of the barrel. B.C. for the first time since confederation had to take transfer payments from the feds because we were a have not province. We were broke, our credit rating was in the basement and we had to take hand outs from the feds.

How about the fast ferry boondoggle? Cost $400 million, never completed and sold for $25 million. How about where the NDP cancelled their contract to a large forest firm costing taxpayers $150 Million?

I could go on but my head is getting sore, however my gut has one more statement. These guys don't get it. They couldn't pull it together in the 1970's under Dave Barrett which basically bankrupted B.C. in the 1990's, and their slogan Change for the Better. What? Not sure what they are trying to change. Students are graduating with jobs, there is a labour shortage, small business is growing and there is a sense of excitement for the future. My head tells me the economy is moving forward under the Liberals and the NDP are grasping for ideas so they come up with this lame slogan.

The facts are out there, the NDP are poison to economic growth. Just check their records; both your head and gut will be amazed and sickened at their incompetence.
