There has to be a better way

I feel I must respond to the letter that appeared in the Citizen on Nov. 10, titled "Think of it as Rent." How dare anyone suggest that the proud Canadians who built this country should pay rent to live here.

I feel I must respond to the letter that appeared in the Citizen on Nov. 10, titled "Think of it as Rent."

How dare anyone suggest that the proud Canadians who built this country should pay rent to live here.

This is a huge insult to the men and women who died defending this country, who homesteaded the land, who planted the crops, who built the roads and railway, and who made this country into what it is today.

Being born in a country does not guarantee that you own that country. Especially, if the said people were conquered in battle.

The main message in my letter to the editor was regarding the huge tax free salaries of $110,000 to $180,000 enjoyed by chiefs, while their people live in poverty. This is wrong.

And again I will say that history has proven that giving one race of people handouts does not inspire them to become independent, contributing members of their communities. There has to be a better way.
