The love of money, not money itself is the root of evil

Todd Whitcombe's 'As I See It' column explaining "the demise of the penny" is in part quite fitting by a senseless quote or two. Whether his intent was serious, half serious, non serious or absurd - he definitely accomplished the latter categories.

Take the misquoted version , or perversion he provided "that money is the root of all evil". The original absolute statement of course was actually coined by Paul in I Timothy 6:10 "For the love of money is the root of all evil."

So it is not "money" - but "the love of money" that is the root of all evil. Anyone reading this response today or the original newspaper column article knows that money does a lot of good things too. Money builds a lot of churches, schools, hospitals and even universities.
