The HST: Not worth the gamble

First off let me state as a rule: I don't read Bruce's opinions as I find him to be a right-wing, partisan, liberal hack; however, his last op-ed piece caught my attention, but only for the first few paragraphs and ended after reason number 10.

First off let me state as a rule: I don't read Bruce's opinions as I find him to be a right-wing, partisan, liberal hack; however, his last op-ed piece caught my attention, but only for the first few paragraphs and ended after reason number 10. It was from then on he reverted to his true form.

It is bad enough the HST referendum question has been intentionally confusing and misleading but Bruce's choice of wording follows lock step with the B.C. Liberal party lines.

So let me put it to you in clear language: The HST takes billions of dollars from B.C.'s working families and gives it to B.C.'s biggest corporations.

Now I could pick apart Bruce's dribble, that the Citizen has elected to print as an opinion, like shooting fish in a barrel, but it is really not worth my time. However, I do need to challenge his blatant lie - HST at 10 per cent.

This is completely not true. The HST is 12 per cent and will be for the foreseeable future. The B.C. Liberals have promised much to working families and have followed through with little to none of them. It really is not worth the gamble that will cost us billions of dollars.

Safe to say, though, we, as hard working British Columbians, are a fair people who don't mind paying taxes for important services; however, we want a fair taxation system where everyone pays their share.

Now the PST and its side kick the GST may not be the best system of taxation, but with the PST at least it is a fairer tax. So don't be fooled by the B.C. Liberals' intentionally misleading question or Bruce's intentionally misleading opinion: Vote 'Yes' to extinguish the HST.

Vote 'Yes' to fairer taxes. Vote 'Yes' for the PST. Vote 'Yes' for publicly funded services for all British Columbians.
